That's why micro markets, he
believes, have been a popular offering.
Micro markets add to growth
In 2013 Smith Vending entered the
micro market segment with the
placement of an Avanti market.
Since then, micro markets have been
a large growth segment for the com-
pany. Today the company has grown
to nine micro market locations and
has seen a revenue increase from
around $125,000 in 2013 to nearly
$450,000 in 2015. They have expe-
rienced 50 percent growth each year
in placement — placing three to four
markets annually.
Customers like that they have
food variety and the markets add
more consumer engagement than
vending. That is particularly true
when it comes to offering promo-
tions and loyalty features. "I enjoy
that we can give customers perks
in the micro markets," said Nester.
"They are rewarded for shopping
with us and that is beneficial for
everyone." Smith Vending runs
three to five micro market promo-
tions per period, which last two to
four weeks.
Nester says he would love to grow
the micro market segment more, but it
