Apple Announces Apple Pay ▶ Apple ® announced Apple Pay™, a new category of service that will transform mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay. Apple Pay works with iPhone ® 6 and iPhone 6 Plus through a NFC antenna design, a dedicated chip called the Secure Element, and the security and convenience of Touch ID™. Apple Pay sup- ports credit and debit cards from the three major payment networks, American Express, MasterCard and Visa. Marriott Chicago Installs Farmer's Fridge Healthy Vending Machine ▶ The Chicago Marri- ott O'Hare has installed Farmer's Fridge, a healthy vending kiosk that dispenses gourmet salads among other healthy items. The compa- ny's kiosk will be located in the Chicago Marriott O'Hare for the next fve months under a pilot program. If successful, the program may roll out nationally. Global Vending Management Expands Across Florida ▶ Global Vending Manage- ment (GVM) announced the acquisition of a Florida vending division, increas- ing its area of service to include all of Florida. "We are proud to announce that every account was obtained organically, and includes fve new micro markets and several vending routes," said Sherri Goodman Hol- stein, co-owner of GVM. Isis Changes Name To Softcard ▶ Isis Wallet has changed its name to Softcard fol- lowing a July announce- ment in which the company revealed it would rebrand in order to avoid associa- tion with the militant group ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria). Softcard CEO Michael Abbott announced in a letter that the Isis Wallet will continue to work while the company launches the updated Softcard app. At that point, consumers can update the app and see the transition. Coca-Cola Brings Back Surge For Limited Time ▶ The citrus-favored spar- kling drink Surge, that was introduced by Coca-Cola in 1996, will be making a come- back after a 12 year hiatus, says the company. The drink was taken off of shelves in the early 2000s. The company says that Surge is the frst discontin- ued brand it has returned to the market. Surge will re-launch in 12-packs of 16-ounce cans with the same design, however, the drink will be sold exclusively through online retailer, Amazon, for a limited time. People in the News G & J Announces Three New Independent Contractors G & J Marketing and Sales announced the addition of three new independent contractors to the G & J team, including Brad Barton, Nick Porcelli and Raju Chuganey. Hector Benavides Joins Vagabond As VP Of Sales Vagabond has announced that Hector Benavides has joined the company as vice president of sales. In addition to sales man- agement responsibilities, Benavides will work with Vagabond's executive and engineering team as it establishes more formal relation- ships with other technology providers who integrate with the Vagabond software and communications platform. NAMA Recognizes Webster, Hart & Shea During National Coffee Service Month In honor of National Coffee Service Month, NAMA highlighted three industry veterans who have shaped the OCS industry: Karen Webster, chief fnancial offcer at Newco Enterprises, Inc., Dan Hart, CEO of South- ern Refreshment Services and Ken Shea, vice president of coffee development at DS Services of America. Dave Mandella Joins Black Tie Services Black Tie Services in Baltimore, MD, has brought on industry veteran Dave Mandella to serve as general manager. Mandella has over 20 years of vending management and sales experience working for Five Star Food Service, Full Service Vending and Vend Rite Services. GVM Hires Robert Handlin Global Vending Management (GVM) introduces Robert Handlin as its new general manager. Handlin's knowledge of incorporating green technology and utilizing ADA compliant ma- chines will allow him to incorporate healthy liv- ing options into GVM's micro markets and retail vending.
