VendingMarketWatch Top News Stories epsiCo announced a goal that by 2020 all of its future point-of-sale equipment (coolers, vending machines and fountain dispensers) purchased in the U.S. will be HFC-free. HFCs are a popular chemical coolant and are considered a potent green- house gas (GHG) that contributes to climate change. This goal is part of a recently launched partnership with the Obama Administration and other U.S. companies, which aims to reduce global consump- tion of HFCs by the equivalent of 700 million metric tons of carbon dioxide — or 1.5 percent of the world's 2010 GHG emissions — through 2025. To meet its goal, PepsiCo will begin purchas- ing new HFC-free equipment starting in 2015. PepsiCo has already begun to phase out HFCs in its equipment outside of the U.S. by buying more than 290,000 HFC-free pieces of equipment since 2009 and by using a 100 percent HFC-free insulation/foam for all new equipment. It has also minimized the impact of existing equipment by innovating its coolers and vending machines to improve their energy effciency by 60 percent compared with a 2004 baseline. These combined efforts have reduced total GHG emissions by 18 percent since 2007. P PepsiCo Announces Goal To Phase Out HFC Equipment By 2020 the business assets of Davis Beverage Group and Davis Bottling Co. If completed, the acquisition would include most of Davis' direct store delivery territory in Penn- sylvania and a portion of its New Jersey territory as well as its production and dis- tribution facilities, delivery vehicles, vending equipment and other assets. General Mills To Acquire Annie's ▶ General Mills, Inc. said that it has entered into a defnitive agreement to acquire Annie's, Inc., a U.S. producer of branded organic and natural food products with net sales of $204 million in its latest fscal year (completed March 2014). Annie's will join Gen- eral Mills' U.S. natural and organic products portfolio, which includes the Cascadian Farm, Muir Glen, LÄRABAR and Food Should Taste Good brands. Net sales for these General Mills brands totaled approximately $330 million in its latest fscal year (ended May 2014). ShelfX's Unmanned Convenient Store Makes Grand Opening In Las Vegas ▶ ShelfX introduced its unattended C-store to its new Las Vegas, NV, showroom. The new showroom mimics a real-life unattended micro market, and is fully equipped with ShelfX patent-pending 'wave before you take' tech- nology. Entry to the conve- nience store is completely secured, requiring a wave of the shopper's pre-paid Xcard or swipe of a credit card. PepsiCo will begin purchasing new HFC-free equipment starting in 2015. The Hershey Co. Updates Corporate Brand, New Logo ▶ The Hershey Co. unveiled an updated corporate brand and a new company logo. The new corporate logo is built upon the globally recognized HERSHEY logotype used on its Hershey's chocolate bar and is a modern update that features a new interpretation of the shape of its Kisses brand chocolate. Along with the new logo, Hershey is implementing a new, disci- plined visual identity system that is inspired by the famous colors of its most iconic brands, including Hershey's, Reese's and Ice Breakers, to bring a more colorful and consistent look to all of the company's visual materials. Keurig And Coca-Cola Expand Agreement ▶ Keurig Green Mountain, Inc. (Keurig) and The Coca- Cola Co. have expanded the companies' partnership to offer select beverages from the portfolio of The Coca- Cola Co.'s still brands in the Keurig ® hot brewing system in the U.S. and Canada. Honest Tea ® is the frst brand from The Coca-Cola Co. avail- able in K-Cup ® packs.
